Lessons Learned From Installing Solar Panels
Solar panels is a great alternative energy source. Rather than hiring a professional, many individuals have taken on the task of Installing their own solar panels. Before making that leap, there are important factors to consider that could save you a great deal of aggravation and time. Four of the most important lessons that I’ve learned from installing solar panels are:
1. Study the limitations of a stand alone system.
Purchasing a small stand alone system only works on low energy items, such as lighting or a television. Items that required a great deal of energy such as air-conditioners and refrigerators will not work well on a stand alone system. It is extremely difficult for a stand alone system to power high energy items without being tied to the grid. Please do not misunderstand me, the stand alone systems do work very well, but having it tied to a grid may be more beneficial.
2. Miscalculating Solar Savings
It can be a bit complicated trying to assess what solar panels you need and how many. An evaluation of the availability of sunlight also has to be taken into consideration. It is best to consult with a local specialist prior to purchasing your kit, for this could save you lots of time and money in the end. Another important lesson learned from installing solar panels is making your home energy efficient prior to installation. The more energy efficient your home is, the less you will have to spend in solar panels.
3. Improper Wiring
One of the biggest mistakes is guessing where the wire should go and how the wire should run. The wiring can be rather tricky and needs to be done carefully. If you are not sure, call in a professional.
4. Research Prior to Buying
Another big mistake is not doing enough research prior to buying my solar panel kits. Installing an efficient solar panel system can be very expensive. There were unexpected cost that I was not originally aware of. This is why it is best to discuss your intentions with your building and zoning department prior to purchasing any of the panels.
